Hi All,

Do your students (or your own kids) play with Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Cards? Have
you ever bothered reading the English texts on these cards? Mine ask me to
translate the instructions for them and I am stumped and horrified. In the
end, I turned it into a fun lesson correcting all the mistakes on the
blackboard together with the students.

Here just a few real examples (no these are NOT typos but copied out letter
for letter from the cards):

*This card's name is treated as "Umi.*

* *

*It can make all magic cards which attack the equippment monsters lose the
power.*

* *

*It will make you pain when you think it as a litttle dinosaur.*

* *

*The monster will be destroyed at the end of destroying siage if my monster
is of fighter or magic user.*

* *

*Both player's Life Points becomme 0.*

* *

*One card must bepresected while the opponent's monster destroyed.*

* *

*This card used for obtaining the control on the cowbined animal in the
field.*

* *

*Only cquipped with one card which May prohibit the combined unit.*

* *

*Declard one card's name which may turn to your hand if it's opponent's
card.*

And finally, how about these:

*In green, greedy and like to play prank, a nuisance devil,poor in power,but
can com bime "as devil resting on rose"*

* *

*According to your apponent's card under control. Make the damage invalid
and on the contrary, same damage happened on the opponent.*

My students were amazed that I as English teacher could not translate these
"simple" sentences for them. Could you?!

You can find this wonderful English mostly on the fake cards which have on
the flip side instead of the white lettered KONAMI the name Yu Gi Oh! in red
at the top of the card.

*This is the first time in my life I have begged my students NOT to read
English!*
