[etni] book for elementary level adults

Hi all,
I think it's pretty much outlined in the subject: I'm looking for a book
that would advance an adult from the basic almost non-reader level to some
sort of knowledge. Everything I know is suited for kids (the cat in the hat,
etc.)
Would appreciate any suggestions (and publisher if possible)
Still looking for a third of a position in Jerusalem.
