They can use even dumb phones with polleverywhere. They just send an SMS.
Usually it is a code and their answer.
I played a powerpoint game with the students. I used a gaming template
downloaded from the Internet with a hidden picture. The picture I chose was
Mount Rushmore. Each slide a piece of the picture was uncovered and
students sent their guess through sms. The replies automatically popped up
on the screen for all to see.

The game itself was not the core of the lesson through. These gaming slides
I used interspersed with a powerpoint presentation on several different
topics. The slides were "comic relief" if you want or just visual markers
that we had finished one topic and were about to start the next.

Students liked the idea.
