I enjoyed this Jerusalem Post writer's thoughts on the Israeli
education system. Unfortunately, I also agree with much of what he
says. How many times have you had a student ask you, "Is this on the
Bagrut?" and when you answered that it wasn't, he or she replied,
"Then why do we have to learn it?"
In any case, I think that Mr. Keinon would be pleased to learn that
when I hear kids at the school kiosk saying things like, "Give me some
gum!" I always prompt them to add "please" -- some of us are trying to
teach basic manners.
Back to marking Bagrut exams...
