Interesting topicHaving taught many schools as a substitute and many different ages and levels.I think the variety of the books should depend on the level. Weaker/ and possibly younger pupils should be names, and subjects they are more familiar with to give them a sense of well-being and confidence- often their exposure is so limited that they are not aware of any culture or civilisation beyond their 'village' boundary (this happens in small areas of central Israel as well) Stronger and older students are generally more inclined to learn about their surroundings and venture further afield and be more inquisitive and knowledge then the books can be diverse and use foreign names, places of interest etc. For these students it is better for their learning of foreign languages to feel they are transported to another place and that it is different.
