Subject: A "NEW" key to teaching
I have just completed a wonderful sabbatical year. I would like to share
with you the key to this special year. I took a Remedial Course at Talpiot
College in Tel Aviv. I, like most of you checked out all the other courses
available at the time, made up my mind and registered. This course has
opened an entire new world for me. I have been in the classroom for the past
12 years and have taught special ed., weak learners, native speakers and
other types of students. Only now do I know how to get to each student in
the class, especially those with special needs.
We learned how to teach reading for the various students using an all
encompassing system. We learnt how to deal with ADD and ADHD students, and
as my classes contain ADD and ADHD students, the approaches that we learnt
are all applicable. These are just a few of the subjects which we studied.
What I liked the most about the program was that the knowledge that I got
from Talpiot could immediately be applied. For the past week I have been
preparing 5th graders, who need extra help, for the new school year. All
those creative ideas in music, story telling and songs that I got from
Talpiot are helping me out at this moment.
This course has opened a new world for me!
