Subject: Gmuls and cut in hours

Dear Bari and Barry (Ladies first...) and List,

As a coordinator, I was told to cut back 4 classes of English from 7-12 grades. That is a lot! In addition to opening fewer classes for the 7th grade, which means I have groups of 40 pupils now instead of 30.
Add to that the fact that the head of the Southern District ordered that there will be no more JH coordinator. This means that either one person is now in charge of 6 levels (in my school that means around 1200 pupils) - which I feel is well over my capabilities. I find keeping track of only the JH pupils and teachers quite enough.
The other solution is for the school to compensate the JH coordinator with teaching hours, but there are no teaching hours
to be given due to the cuts!

As for the Gmul in 11th grade. Last year we moved over to the split Gmul system, i.e. 1/2 gmul for module A, 1 Gmul for modules B to F, 1.5 Gmuls for G.
Our principal promised us that we would be given the whole Gmul for the 12th grade for this year of change so no one looses out. We are still waiting! When I see it in this year's salary, I'll believe it.

I feel we are doing a lot for the educational system, but getting not much back (and that is an understatement). How long does the Ministry think good teachers are going to last in such a system? How much longer are new students going to enroll in teacher training programs?
The future seems bleak.
Nehama
