Subject: question about module C
Dear People:
I'm going to take the chance of being thought to be pretty dumb -
but I'm not sure about the answer to one of the multiple choice
questions on Module C!
Question 7 - People who object to audio-books say that.
Well, most of my students wrote "reading requires full attention"
- because the text says "you need to concentrate on what the
author wants to say".
However, I thought that listening to an audio book is not exactly
reading - and if that had been the answer, I would have expected
the word "reading" to be in quotation marks or something.
Then there is "listening to a book while driving can be dangerous"
- which I thought was the correct answer (having eliminated
"reading requires full attention, for the reason given above).
I based myself on the words, "people who listen to a book
while doing other things might miss important details".
Now, "details" could refer to details of the book, or it could refer
to details of whatever other activity they are engaged in -
like driving - so I thought that one could infer that listening to a
book while driving can be dangerous. So, I thought that was
the correct answer. But on the other hand (I'm running out
of hands) - the people who object to audio books don't
actually "say" that - it can just be inferred from what they say
- which brings me back again to the answer "reading requires
full attention". with the problem that listening to an audio book
is not reading.. etc.
Anyway - I was wondering what other people think.
