Subject: Re: magen grade
OK, I have to answer this.
1. In many cases, the 30% of the project, literature and extensive reading
RAISES the magen grade by a few points. And our students do projects in
class, write in-class book reports and study literature. As far as I can
see, the 30% is usually more or less the same as the average test grade or
up to 10 points higher. It is lower (or even 0) when the kid didn't read a
book or refused to work on the project (or didn't hand it in on time or at
all, or left out a section).
2. Re pressure from the administration - before we gave the magen grades, I
explained to our "rakaz pedegogi" that there will be some grades different
than the average test grades, because of the 30%, and this is something we
must do, according to the instructions from the MOE. So we didn't have any
big problems here. Whenever he asked why a specific grade was low, and we
said that the kid hadn't handed in a project (we have a few like that, to my
sorrow) he accepted the grade.
And good luck to everyone today!
