Hello dear teachers,This may not be an issue for English teachers only and
still I would really appreciate your input on it. At our school it has been
increasingly difficult to get people to take on homeroom-teaching. This
position of "mechanech kita" is very demanding. It involves a lot of meetings,
paper work, dealing with parents etc. The special "shaot chinuch" are another
source of frustration for homeroom teachers as many teachers feel this ancient
format does not seem to work anymore. They complain it is impossible to have a
decent shaat chinuch with 40 students. Also, schools do not give thier
mechanchim guidance or training as to how exactly teach those hours. A group of
teachers at our school has taken it upon themselves to look into different ways
of homeroom teaching. We would love to learn more about schools which work with
other systems, such as having each teacher "tutor" or guide small groups of
students (10?).Who has any experience
with such alternative systems? We would love to come to your school and hear
how it has worked (or not worked) for you. Thanks in advance,Sandra
