It's a year since I taught in an Israeli EFL classroom.  From this perspective,
still reading my ETNI posts, addicted?, here's my take on the return of
Literature and the Irgun's sanctions and EFL.

EFL-  English in Israel is a FOREIGN LANGUAGE, not a Second Language.  Pressure
should be put on the schools, the system, via the Irgun/Histadrut/Ministry etc
to improve general thinking and language skills and grammar in Hebrew, not
English.

Literature-  Teach APPRECIATION to make it easily enjoyable, not advanced,
native tongue analysis.

Irgun sanctions.  Considering how little the administration of the HS where I
taught understood the 5 requirements (3 written tests, 1 oral and 1 project) to
pass the English Bagrut, I have no doubts that the Irgun doesn't understand
that no project means failure.  How many English teachers are in the top
echelons of the Irgun?
