Do your students say "open/close the light" instead of "turn the light on/off"? If so, they need to practice using phrasal verbs. *https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrAEAQ7Ssww&list=PLEHBbj8NPA2z5GB5GBRxzl6IOi2iHukOn*<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrAEAQ7Ssww&list=PLEHBbj8NPA2z5GB5GBRxzl6IOi2iHukOn> contains 18 video clips. The first three clips entitled "Phrasal verb pictures, Lessons 1, 2 and 3" involve dynamic illustrations that will grab and keep your students' attention. The remaining clips contain only static diagrams that are difficult to see and, in my opinion, are not as effective. If you use any of these 18 clips in class, I would recommend displaying them without sound and give your own explanation in your own voice for each phrase. You should be able to interrupt and resume these video clips so that the class has an opportunity to practice each phrase. *http://www.academia.edu/1297347/A_Phrasal_Expressions_List_The_PHRASE_List_-_Martinez_R._and_Schmitt_N._2012_._Applied_Linguistics_33_3_pp._299-320 <http://www.academia.edu/1297347/A_Phrasal_Expressions_List_The_PHRASE_List_-_Martinez_R._and_Schmitt_N._2012_._Applied_Linguistics_33_3_pp._299-320>* lists about 500 phrases (including phrasal verbs) in the order of their frequency of usage. The ability to use these phrases correctly makes one's speech or writing seem normal and "native". Each phrase is accompanied by one example and an indication of whether it is customarily used in speech, general writing, and/or academic writing. My adult students at the ARDC (African Refugee Development Center) were especially pleased to get a copy of this list. ************************************** ** Join ETNI on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/31737970668/ ** ETNI Blog and Poll http://ask-etni.blogspot.co.il/ ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org ** post to ETNI List - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** help - ask@xxxxxxxx ***************************************
