Sara G told us about her mixed 4-5 point class. Our school doesn't have enough pupils for 3 hakbatzot so I frequently teach a mixed 4-5 group as you describe, they are usually more 4 than 5. Lets divide the group into 3 parts: 4 pointers ; 5 pointers ; and a group I'll call 4-5 pointers : very strong 4-ers who maybe I can pull up to 5, or weak 5-ers who I want to be sure they pass 4 because I am skeptical they can really do 5) My basic schedule is: Winter 11th grade: 4 pointers do C; 5 pointers do E; 4-5 pointers sometimes do C and E both . This is OK - the E kids dont get a ton of listening, and all my tests have 2 versions (C and E) Summer 11th grade: I work on writing extensively: 4 pointers do D, 5 pointers do F. Since both modules include written work it works out OK. We also work extensively on projects and finish them (god willing). Winter 12th grade: lots of lit; oral practice; everyone does Orals; (4-5 point group do E after finishing C and D last year only if they will go on for 5. Otherwise you end up with 1/2 a class the last semester and the kids wander around causing trouble.) Summer 12th grade : 4 pointers - E ; 5 pointers - G; 4-5 pointers F and G both if they go for 5 ----------------------------------------------- ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org or - http://www.etni.org.il ** ** for help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** ** to post to this list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** -----------------------------------------------
