Mitzi, Maxine, Adele, Aviva - thanks for ALL your honest feedback to the SAME 5, 6, maybe 10 teachers who are still showing (and voicing) their apprehension about the Literature program. No Ministry committee has ever sat so many hours working on a program and yes, it is a slap in the face to read that so few teachers are writing as if they represent the English teaching profession stating that the Inspectorate doesn't care about the field. The teachers who took part in the pilot KNOW that changes were immediately made THANKS to their input and changes are still being implemented as comments are suggested. Teaching Literature is not new for teachers who have abided by the Ministry regulations throughout the years. The so called new-change is the introduction of TEACHING HOTS which is not only a buzz word in Israel but at an international level. We know that once HOTS have been mastered it will and can be used not only for Literature, not only for Highschools but for all level s, all age groups, all aspects of learning a language. (I attended an excellent ETAI Hishtalmut on Tuesday. Penny Ur gave a superb hands-on talk and demonstartion of how we can use HOTS in our language lessons. It made so much sense to ALL of us and made me feel proud to feel that we here in Israel are striving to be "professionals" in the work that we have chosen as our profession. The feedback from the field, teachers and pupils alike is mostly positive, a feeling that learning through thinking is taking place. Are there still problems - sure. Will they be seen to, taken care of - sure. We, and especially Judy Steiner, are open for suggestions. The inspectorate does not answer ETNI not because it is not an important site but because the official site is that of the Ministry. So, if you do want your concerns taken care of (HOTS or other pedagogical problems) please write to the Ministry site direct. It makes more sense to "truths" on ETNI rather than spreading unfounded rumors. On a final note - I take this opportunity to thank Dr. Judy Steiner for all her hard work, the never ending hours she has invested, her patience and professionalism. Our students need us (teachers) as role models. I am so thankful that we in the teaching profession have such a role model, Dr. Judy Steiner. ----------------------------------------------- ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org or - http://www.etni.org.il ** ** for help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** ** to post to this list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** -----------------------------------------------
