[gps-talkusers] Re: FW: Video demonstration of the new Trekker Breeze+ talking GPS

From what I have seen , it is worth the upgrade. The Breeze never
worked well in my area, now it does.

I would compare the old chip to the Holux GPSlim 236 and the new chip to
the later iBlue receivers that we used with the BrailleNOte GPS products.
In my area the Breeze would drop and acquire, sometimes in a totally
different location. Now it stays connected. When walking it used to
drop the connection. Now the connection is stable. I don't live in a
metro such as New York City where there lots of tall buildings that
could obstruct the view of the sky.
Also for me it seems to work better than the internal receiver on my
Onhand.
The above is just my observations and opinion.

A friend of mine is considering the $200 upgrade for his existing Trekker
unit. Is it worth it? That's subjective, of course, but do the new internals
offer significantly better performance, or is it only a moderate upgrade? Are
there any advantages other than possibly faster acquisition and less drops?

It has been my experience it gets the satellites within a minute where
before it could take 10-15.

Also it no longer drops the connection. There were places in my area I
could depend on the breeze loosing its connection, This is no more.

I haven't noticed much difference except that the accuracy seems to be a
little more precise. I haven't had a chance to test it in city canyons
yet. I think but can't prove that my Breeze doesn't acquire satellites
about as often as it did forcing me to do a reset probably every third or
fourth start-up.

All that said, when it works I consider it to be the best of the systems I
have used although Loadstone on my Nokia N73 was excellent once you jumped
through all the hoops to get maps installed.

Breeze+ talking GPS

I actually updated my Breeze to the latest hardware and the acquisition
time and fact that it doesn't drop as much as the old receiver is quite
nice.
