Hello Rod,
The Lookaround Intersection feature is not tied to routes. So intersections
will automatically be announced whether or not a route is currently running.
The other features are already on our wish list.

I just joined the list too. The Seeing Eye GPs app is the best app on my
iPhone I have used for walking around my neighborhood; however, I really
hope Sendero adds the ability to customize automatic announcements. I would
like the intersection described without using routes. I would also like it
described with the screen locked. I would like to put the iPhone in my
pocket and not have to interact with it as I walk. APH's Nearby Explorer
does a great job doing this, but it is only available on Android. I don't
want to switch to Android; I love my iPhone! Smile.
Thanks to Sendero for this great app. I hope to see additional features in
the future.
