Hi All,
I still have the Sendero GPS map on my Braille Note and it serves a purpose for
me that nothing else can touch. I started with Atlas Speaks on my computer and
was totally amazed when at a convention, they pulled up my neighborhood and
walked virtually around it with me. I have been hooked since then. I now only
have the virtual version, but I really like checking out where I have walked
and how far I have gone. I use it to discover a shorter or longer way to get
to where I want to go in real time.
For real world travel as a pedestrian, I am using alternately the Seeing Eye
GPS and recently, Good maps. One thing I like much better about Seeing Eye GPS
is that it gives more information about my upcoming intersection configuration.
We have so many more choices now.
I like to know how far I walk every day and continually encourage myself to
keep going, discover new routes, and walk farther with my guide dog. I have a
daily average that I try to meet. I am ever hopeful that the newer GPS options
for the iPhone will allow better virtual navigation. Those audible walking
feet are interesting, but I can never stay on the right path long enough to
learn anything from them. I have not figured out how best to continue when I
reach the edge of the screen on my phone.

i have them and really enjoy them. In most areas, especially urban areas, the
street layout isn't going to change, so the maps will be usable for the
foreseeable future.

The Sendero PC windows maps program still works and I use it weekly. The maps
have not been updated but that’s not a major detraction.
It is nothing like the Google or Apple maps products. Those are not designed
for virtual exploration in the same way as the windows application is. They all
have their strengths and weaknesses. The Sendero PC maps product was around for
about 18 years so I had a pretty good run and as I say I’m still using it and I
think as lots of value
