Hi

On the same subject, I notice that our National Health Trusts (the people that now manage the hospitals here in the UK) are also listed under the General Practitioner category rather than the hospital one. At least in our area, will do some more research.

Hi Charles

As far as the medical category is concerned there are not enough
categories
to cover all needs. You only seem to have Dental, General,
Hospital and
Optician. The problem is that in the UK a General Practitioner
is what we
call the general doctor you call when something hurts or doesn't
seem to
work properly. My wife is a chiropodist (pediatrist I think over
there) and
only deals with foot problems.

I detail the three local medical services that I think are
misledingly
categorised and my local doctor who I would consider to be
correctly.

Bingham; a (name)
medical service (category)
general practitioner (subcategory)
258260002627382 (third party id)
should be chiropody

Vyan nevil-towe (name)
medical services (category)
General practitioner (subcategegory
258260002614022
Should be osteopath or alternative medicine

Peter Haynes (name)
medical services (category)
general practitioner (subcategory)
258260002604862
Should be alternative medicine

This is the correct one

Western Elms Surgery (name)
medical services (category)
General practitioner (subcategor)

Restaurants/pubs

Difficult to know what to suggest here. The English pub is a
drinking house.
Many do not serve food at all. However the Alcohol establishment
category
does not have an appropriate subcategory. Most pubs seem to be
listed as
Restaurant, with a subcategory of cafe, which is definitely not
right (in
some you would be chucked out for asking for coffee).

Other restaurants seem to be categorised reasonably well.

Foresters Arms (name)
restaurant (category)
Cafe (subcategory)
258260002253542 (third party id)

rose thistle (name) (system obviously does not like 'and')
restaurant (category)
cafe (subcategory)
258260002273134

Nag's Head (name)
restaurant (category)
cafe (subcategor)
258260002553548

This next one is a restaurant but it is not subcategorised
5 the restaurant (name)
restaurant (category)
258260002611412 (third party id)

This next one is a coffe shop and is probably correctly
categorised as
restaurant, cafe.

Workhouse coffee (name)
restaurant (category)
cafe (subcategory)
258260002499880

I hope all of this helps. Call on me again if you need further
help.

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your feedback and I would like to see what I can do
to
try to improve the sub-categories for the UK and all other
European
POIs. The dataset I get from TeleAtlas is completely different
between North America from Europe, and I have to have different
mappings to convert their POI categories and sub-categories into
our
own smaller set of categories and sub-categories. If you feel a
sub-category is in error I can try to see what can be done to fix
the
issue but I will need a little information from you.

First I will need a Third Party ID for the POI in question (which
you
can get from the POI Details.)
Then I will need the current Category and Sub-category the POI is
in,
and then what category/subcategory you think it should be in
instead. If you can provide 2 examples for each issue then I can
go
back to the original Data from TeleAtlas and see what category
and
sub-category they had the POI set to and then figure out if I can
re-map them to the requested new category/subcategory.

I may not be able to do anything but I will let you know what I
find
out. I.E.if you say that a Pub is listed under Restaurant, but
if I
find that these Pub's have the same TeleAtlas Category number as
other real restaurants then I won't be able to fix the problem
because I will just move all restaurants to pubs or vice versa
which
won't help anything. But I won't know what the issue is until I
have
more information.

Thanks
Charles.

Hi Guys

Since starting to use the new maps I have noticed that the POI
subsidiary
categories on UK POIs seem to be rather suspect. I am
particularly
concerned
about the medical services category.

All the POIs in the medical services category seem to have been
given a
subcategory of general practitioner. This would lead a UK user
to suspect
that they were all doctors in general practice. This subcategory
has been
applied to my wife who is a chiropodist. A local hypnotherapist
and
Osteopath have been shown in the same way.

Other subcategories do not look much better. Most pubs seem to
be listed
under restaurants whether or not they do food and subcategories
appear to
have no entries at all.

I have reported the problems to Sendero but I cannot at the
moment find a
way of reporting them to Telatlas as the web site seems to only
want to
know
about positions of businesses.

Also, another brand that isn't as widely known as these, but
which has had
a
lot of consistent good behavior as far as their pen drives, SD
cards and
Compact Flash cards with the Braille Note even when it did not
take as many
cards and drives as it does now is PNY. They are less expensive,
for the
most part, than the others are, as well.

Thanks, Kevin. I love Newegg. I just wasn't sure what brands,
besides
Sandisk, work with the BrailleNote, and I didn't want to pay for
something
I'd have problems returning. So now I'll add Transcend to my
list of
usable
cards. I remember Mike said he was using a 32 gb card. Mike,
what brand
is
it, and where did you get it? Inquiring minds want to know.

Peggy,

I would recommend brands, such as SanDisk, Transcend me many
other
brands.
I would suggest http://www.newegg.com as I have found very good
deals.
For
example, I found a 16GB card by Transcend for around$50.

Okay, guys, now that our maps are bigger, does anyone know of a
good
brand
of compact flash card that's 16 or 32 gb, and where to get it?
I've
just
about filled my 2 gb card with maps for California, Oregon,
Washington,
and
some extra POI files, and I'd like to store my stuff on a card
with a
bit
more room. Does anyone know of any sales?
