It depends on which phone and the chip they are using. Phones also have the benefit of having a radio attached so many of the GPS implimentations including the one on the htc ppc-6800 can take advantage of tower assistance. With a registry editor it's possible to enable or disable features of the built in GPS receiver. That all being said, there are a lot of down sides to using your built in receiver over something like an M1000. First and foremost, the battery draw with an on phone GPS receiver is quite high. Secondly, they tend to have slow time to fix performance so you'll be waiting several minutes to have the phone lock on to a signal. Third, many times when the phone goes to sleep so does the receiver and thus needs to regain a fix when it awakens. There are also issues with the way the internal phones communicate and can need a special daemon to insure they stay awake and or become active at all. (primarily a software problem) Something like an M1000 really should perform better. Remember, the main function of that GPS receiver is providing 911 location services. Mike or Charles can speak to the sendero differences but these are some of the things I've run in to when experimenting with the GPS functions included on the qualcomm MSM7500 that you find on the htc 6800 (Sprint Mogul, VZ xv6800 etc).

How does the holux 1000 compare to the receivers found in some of the mobile
phones. Do the mobile phones have the advanced features?
