Hi Scott, That sounds like a cool feature. In lieu of that, you can always turn on the repeat heading feature and set it to repeat say every 30 seconds or 1 minute instead of the default 12 seconds. You could also pick some POI way off in the direction you are heading and set the unit to repeat that as well. Jim Original Message ----- From: "Scott Ford" <scotte.ford@xxxxxxxxx>

Subject: [gps-talkusers] new feature request

Hello Charles and everyone,
I have a feature request that would help me while I am sailing. I
realized that it would help me with orienteering or at least going through
the woods in a straight line. I am going to be crewing on the schooner
Madilan for a week this summer. We will be sailing from Duluth Minnesota to Marquette Michigan. One of my duties will be to steer the boat. I can get
the heading with no problem; however quickly setting a waypoint, or a
destination, or virtual position out on the horizon at a given distance is
kind of cumbersome and difficult. Most sighted people can set their heading and pick something on the horizon to steer toward. I would like to be able
to place a waypoint, virtual position, or destination a given distance
straight out in front of my current heading. This would allow me to make
course corrections to maximize the current wind conditions, still allowing
me to steer to that position on the horizon. I would like to have the
distance placement be a variable that allows the distance to be changed.
Scott
