Hi Mike,
The POIs are very limited in OSM, but who knows in places like Portland
Oregon that have a strong OSM community the POI database could be very good.
So the answer is it depends on where you are located.

Just curious, how is the POI database in OSM? I would think at this point,
foursquare would be the best choice for the POI functions.
