Hi,
I'm not entirely following your instructions but it does sound like you're
creating unnecessary splits, which is what makes these appear. There's no way
to hide them (since they're correct) other than closing them or not opening
them in the first place.
To get two terminals stacked on the left and two browsers stacked on the right
you can do this (assuming default config):
1. Open terminal
2. Open browser
3. split v
4. layout stacked
5. Open browser
6. focus left
7. split v
8. layout stacked
9. Open terminal
There's of course many other ways to achieve the same result. Most importantly
if it's already a stacked parent, don't do another "split", otherwise you get
what you're seeing. Just open the window instead.
If you haven't already, please also read the userguide on the website which
explains the tree structure in detail.
Regards
Ingo

I created a few windows in one desktop.
I created a horizontally split terminal.
Next I opened a chrome window.
Then I split the chrome window vertically with another chrome, and

Next I split the terminal vertically with an IntelliJ window, and stack
the
two of them.
Finally, I split the terminal horizontally with another terminal, and
split
the right one vertically.
This leaves the left half of my monitor as three terminals or IntelliJ,
that I can swap between with $mod + up/down and the right half as one
of
two chrome windows that I switch between the same way.
However, on the left side, I see these extra title bars that say
something
like:
"i3 H[gnome-terminal-server V[gnome-terminal-server]]"
Sometimes, I get a second title bar with similar text that goes across
the
entire screen (depending on the order in which I open things).
I'm guessing these have something to do with the horizontal and
vertical
splits I use to create new windows. Is there a way to hide them?
Thanks.
