Hi Aleksejs,

Aleksejs Popovs <popoffka@xxxxxxxxx> writes:
I'm going to make a patch for i3lock that would let it display some
additional information on the lock screen (such as current time, lock
time, and number of failed login attempts). Would anyone else be
interested in this and should I submit this patch to cr.i3wm.org (I'm
afraid this might be contradict the "lightweight & simple" approach of
i3*)? Also, if anyone in interested in this functionality, how much
customization do you expect?
I am not interested in maintaining such a patch, sorry.

See
https://faq.i3wm.org/question/778/why-is-patch-not-merged-and-made-optional/
for some rationale behind this decision.

I completely understand your concerns. What would be a great thing
though, is a page which offers those unmerged patches, so everyone who
likes a certain idea can apply (on his own risk!) such a patch. With a
central repository, it would be easier to have the authors maintain it
and users find this maintained version (opposed to search the web for
some random patch).

Perhaps one could force the patch authors to add something to the
version string, or print to the logs, to get added to the repository, so
one could easily spot it in bug-reports.
