Setting the client.background color to some color which comes as close to your
background as possible is the best thing you can do.

I am far to happy with i3 to let this annoy me. I will just use
non-transparent black terminals with a black background and forget
about wallpapers. Probably just need need to kick some of those
floating window manager habits :)
