Because the more i3status supports, the bigger it gets. Bigger software is
usually harder to maintain, harder to get into, takes up more space on your
hard disk, and so on…

Also, if the amount of options is kept to a useful amount, this makes it
easier for users to configure the software (the less you have to care about,
the better).

I understand your point of view, to an extent. But what would you say to
people who find the existing options too broad? "Sorry, these are the options
I as the author find interesting, deal with it" ? Personally, I've turned off
ipv6 and dhcp and disk because I find them useless.
