Hi all.

For example, I can not find any information what does mean 'another
container' which appears sometimes on top?

I have to pick up this thread again, because it' still not completely
clear to me.

Here is an example:

I have predefined:

workspace_layout tabbed

in my i3 configuration. Now if I press e.g. Mod+V to switch to vertical
split it always opens 'another container' (unless I focus parent before).

If I have not predefined any workspace_layout, it just splits without
creating 'another container' (and without having the need to focus
parent, too).

What exactly is the difference here?

That's not exactly true. It creates another container, but its title is
not visible when its in default (tiling) layout (and this is the case
when the workspace_layout is not specified).

What you do when you split is create a container inside another
container. This another container is just a single tab in parent
container. It's just not visible when the layout is default.

You can focus parent (to select the split container) and move it up or
down (or left/right if you have a tall screen I guess) out of the tabbed
container or change the workspace's layout to default (just to mask
the title bar).
