I recently got an Acer Aspire 3002NLC. The pack seemed to indicate a
shipped Linux distro...seriously looked more of a conspiracy to
disgrace Linux....an init 3 setup with hardly any utils...many of the
basic cli utils were missing, leave alone X or any other gui
program...that apart...installing Debian Sarge by netinst was a
breeze...coming to the problem...the battery charge left doesn't show
up using acpi...
a chvt to any of the virtual console or a peek into the syslog
confirmed the problem...a continuous stream of message every few
seconds:
ACPI-0352: *** Error: Looking up [Z007] in namespace, AE_NOT_FOUND
search_node c13f3e80 start_node c13f3e80 return_node 00000000
ACPI-1138: *** Error: Method execution failed [\_SB_.BAT1._BST]
(Node c13f3d80), AE_NOT_FOUND.
http://www.cpqlinux.com/acpi-howto.html#basic_steps gave some insight,
though it was for a 2.4 kernel. So, installed iasl, disassembled the
ACPI dsdt and tried to recompile. The compilation threw quite a few
errors. I don't know the syntax / semantics of the iasl language and
the few common fixes mentioned in the document didn't help either. If
anyone knows about this, I would be happy to provide the dsdt and the
compilation log.
I am currently using linux-2.6.12-rc4-ck1 with the inotify patch.
external modules inserted - fuse, cdfs (I don't think the unstable
nature of the kernel is a problem - the problem existed in the stock
sarge kernel as well)
