Either using "gparted" to partition it once i done with installing Ubuntu

or Is there some other best approaches are there?
gparted is safe bet. Confirm if it supports NTFS though.
+1 for gparted to resize the partitions. As always make a backup of
any data on the Ubuntu partition before shrinking the partition size.
OP can always use Windows to do "native" NTFS format on the freed up space.
