Dear shrini, you may recall that I had suggested that some of you meet up
with dr. Nakkeeran, director of Tamil virtual academy.There is an advisory
committee to recommend hardware and software for the incubation centre. A
meeting is scheduled on 10th. Some of you could suggest the software set
from FOSS arena - can be sent to me or discussed and collated in this list
so that I can pass on the same during the meeting.
To start with, the recommendation is to provide development facilities to
individuals or small groups. While the govt would like to use the output in
the state depts and agencies, the developer has an option to take the
product and sell. We plan to suggest the FOSS route, but there are many
steps in between.
I fell the following action will help:

While windows, photoshop, etc., are likely to enter the space, we plan to
ensure that at least 3-4 systems will be Linux based, MySQL -PostgreSQL can
be the main databases, libreoffice, gimp, blender, orca, etc., will find a
place. Mr. Prince from Nic and myself on behalf of nr cfoss/cdac, with help
from other members (mani manivannan, chellappan) hope to offer FOSS related
support from the organs, lug and other communities.
Pool up info on useable work already done in Indian languages
Propose projects by FOSS Tamil community members -- taking advantage of
similar works done elsewhere and show casing how the community interactions
help.
The mail members may have other suggestions.
