Hi
I am using it on arm-linux based board. Getting it up ?on eth1. No problems
at all.
Which is your kernel version? I use on 2.6.30 and above.

OP is talking about USB Ethernet adapter with the DM9601 chipset.
@Bharati - I have had mixed success with the DM9601 chip USB dongles
sourced from Lam Rd. in Mumbai.
(a) One nameless brand with a blue transparent casing works great with
Ubuntu 10.04.
(b) Another nameless brand with a dark brown transparent casing does
*not* work on Ubuntu 10.04.
With (a) kernel recognizes the device and initializes the respective
eth? device whereas with (b) dmesg recognizes the device but throws
up error message. I don't know much about device driver coding but
suspect some difference in firmware. Your experience may be
different.
The Apple USB/RJ45 dongle from what I understand it is well
supported and so is the SMC USB/RJ45 dongle.
Since you are in SIN, they may be more readily available (not much
success in the Mumbai channels).
