Is there any diff in the way debian labels partitions.
I have 3 primary partitions:
partition1 (ntfs)
partition 2 (extended)
extended partition 1 (ntfs)
extended partition 2 (vfat)
partition 3 (ext3)
(I verified the above layout using qtParted)
(ntfs partitions are courtesy of OEM. I rarely use them anyway.
Yet to find time to put things in the right order).
Ok now here is the problem.
As you can see above, the ext3 partition should be labelled /dev/hda3. Right?
That is how it is in red hat (residing in another disk). But in
debian's fstab it is /dev/hda2.
I don't know how this has come to be. Making this more worse is
debian's lilo.conf
which has root= options set to /dev/hda3. And that boots ok. Changing
it to hda2 results in a kernel panic. Interested to know what is
happening here...
