I have found your message in ilugc about installing debian on
915 motherboard.
I have solved the problem of the SATA disks by choosing the
"compound" driver mode on the bios setup, but it does not recognize the
sound board. I am not a linux expert, have you been able to make it work
(with sound) on the intel 915 ?
The sound works fine. There are just two steps.
1.Find the version of the kernel you are running (using uname
-r). Then get the kernel headers corresponding to your kernel using
apt-get install
kernel-headers-x.xx.. (e.g. kernel-headers-2.6.8-386-2).
2.Get the ALSA drivers from
http://www.alsa-project.org (1.0.8 or
later). Extract the archive and do the customary ./configure;make;
make install. Of course, make sure you specify the correct directory
to configure to look for the kernel headers, e.g. ./configure
--kernel-src-dir=... or the like. Also do the same for
alsa-utils. Finally, run /usr/sbin/alsaconf to get you sound card
on.
As for the graphics, I have not had any success, as XFree86 in Debian
doesn't have support for i915. However, the proper kernel and the DRI
drivers from
http://dri.sf.net should do the trick. But I haven't done
it yet, as the package given there is for kernel source. But I'll try
it soon. Any pointers from others using similar hardware would be
helpful.
Thank you.
