but with the release of 11.04 the solutions are not working.

was the solution and after that it was smooth for my dell laptop to
detect
the wireless networks...

Suggests buggy code; it happens.

now I am stuck with Natty as this is not working..
Am I doing something stupid somewhere? or just missing something?

Unless there is a compelling reason to upgrade, it is advisable to
stick with a version that works for you.

I have already upgraded and I am not thinking of switching back..

Then file a bug report with Ubuntu.

? Maybe the "dell-laptop"
module is fixed in the new release and you can give it a try.

well it was not working then i removed the "dell-laptop"

 I don't use Ubuntu and I don't have a Vostro  :(  It was more as a
general suggestion.  You need to find that out for Ubuntu.
