it used to be possible but afaik, linux removed the standalone boot
support in recent kernels - anyway it doesn't hurt keeping a boot
loader...even as far as the timeout 0 is concerned, ensure that your
boot command is correct before doing that - or atleast get a rescue
disk - any error would otherwise make your system unbootable. Even
then, keeping a timeout of say 2 seconds is better - enables you to
change your command line in case you need it - say you want a runlevel
of 3 - well, you won't be able to do much in 2 seconds anyway :)
