Many of the configuring tools have very limited capabilities...editing
by hand is the best solution...man xorg.conf (or XF86Config) is
excellently maintained..I had a similar problem, and the culprit was
the hsync and vsync ranges of my monitor - I had to pull up my monitor
manual and key in the values.
it moves on...
