You seem to have taken the hard way. Did you try using Yum. Beryl works
quite well for me except for a few bugs.. rain shower for ex...
I think this is enough of a faq that googling beryl white screen gives you a
ton of results
ATI drivers, bugs that may need you to use an older version of xserver-xgl,
etc
