First, do not post your query as an reply to Digest mode, Please read
list guidelines. Hence I marked it "Hijacked".
From my little knowledge about what VB.Net is used for (Thanks to
FOSS, I had no clue other than guess with the word VB in it and esp to
WikiPedia), think you are looking for a development platform/toolkit
to develop GUI applications which can work with a Database backend ?
If so, being a KDE guy, will suggest you to have a look at Qt toolkit.
You can download Qt from
http://trolltech.com/products/qt and have a
look at it. It has excellent documentation and community support such
that you will be able to learn the basics quickly (provided you have
the interest to keep working on it). The main Qt toolkit is
accompanied with
1. Qt Designer which is much like a VB environment where you can
pick-n-drop GUI objects and create signals-and-slots for them, as well
as
2. Qt Assistant which serves as a easy-to-browse documentation with an
excellent set of tutorials for you to practice, additional code cooks
to learn a bit real-time apps and finally excellent reference to the
Qt toolkit.
You can also have a look at Glade for Gtk based GUi development.
