I was once told that the Correspondent of the college is very
knowledgeable about FOSS and suggests/recommends looking various FOSS
packages.

as I mentioned in my earlier mail, Prof Adhinarayan could be approached
and also his HoD Prof Gangadharan.
There are other institutions such as PSG Tech, CIT, Sri Ramakrishna College
of Engg, etc. -- but I am not quite sure about the connect between the
student activists and the dept persons.
