IndiMail is a enterprise class MailServer (http://www.indimail.org)
which can serve users in a virtual domain split across multiple
servers for horizontal scalability. IndiMail allows the same domain to
be located on geographical different locations without requiring a
distributed file system like NFS, etc.
IndiMail can be useful for SMEs who can use a robust mail server
without spending a single rupee on
unethical software licenses. IndiMail also can be used to tie a domain
across a heterogeneous set of mail servers (e.g. mix of exchange,
lotus notes, postfix, etc)
The architecture is highly scalable and one can keep on adding users
for a domain on different servers. The MTA is a highly modified
version of qmail. The mail queue on IndiMail is a collection of
multiple queues which gives IndiMail to handle massive amount of mail

IndiMail provides proxy for SMTP/SMTPS, POP3/POP3S, IMAP/IMAPS. The
proxies allows anyone to seamlessly migrate from a proprietary
solutions like Lotus Notes or MS Exchange. The same proxy allows any
user to access/send mails from any location regardless of which server
the user's mailbox lies. IndiMail also provides everything in one
package that a typical mail server requires (virus scanner, antispam,
imap, pop3, etc).
IndiMail was first released at Midnight Aug 15, 2008 to provide
freedom from proprietary solutions and is currently on Release 1.5. It
has been tested to handle around 3 Million+ accounts and > 4 million
deliveries / day. In my organization, IndiMail has beaten postfix in
speed at much lower server loads. You all are welcome to try this out.
A single server like the HP DL 380 has been tested to serve 100,000
users.

IndiMail supports all standard mail protocols. It is one of the few
mailservers which is DKIM ready. IndiMail's DKIM also supports ADSP
(Author Domain Signing Practice).

IndiMail currently works only on reliable OS like Linux, Mac OS X. Any
attempt to compile IndiMail on Windows will stubbornly fail and
shouldn't be attempted (even at your own risk).
IndiMail can be configured through a set of Environment variables or
control files.
There are around 200 parameters which can be used to set any feature
of IndiMail.
A powerful concept called envrules allows you to set Indimail
differently for different users.

A installer for Mac OS X and a debian package for Ubuntu and Debian
are in the works. IndiMail requires volunteers for platforms apart
from those listed above. Everyone is welcome to contribute. Everyone
is welcome to rip apart the code and find bugs or give suggestions. I
will also welcome anyone who can provide me a free shell account on
Ubuntu/Debian so that I can build a debian package.
For me writing IndiMail has been a passion. IndiMail is not a
commercial project and never will be. However, I welcome anyone who
would want to provide commercial support for Installation,
configuration, setup and architecting.
