may be you could enlighten other ilugc'ians abt how Ubuntu is
unique ??

I tried Ubuntu once.
And I can say that it's good for you if you fall in this category
* You love GNOME, not KDE (Kubuntu is for KDE fans)
* You have a broadband connection at home or the complete
Sarge CD-set.
* Are Paranoid about keeping your Distro on the bleeding edge.
For the last point you can also try Gentoo :)
Ubuntu is just Debian, re-packaged with some pretty stuff and a good
Installer
With good hardware detection.I think it uses HAL for hardware detection.
It gives you a default-configured distro and then you can customise it
as you want.
The best thing about Ubuntu is the release cycles, the release cycles
are made
to co-incide with GNOME's, so each time a new GNOME revision happens,
you
can expect a Ubuntu release. They make sure that you get the latest
packages
within a 6 month span. This is a very good solution to the release
problems that
Currently plague Debian.
Also the staff on board Cannonical is some of the who's who of the
Linux-Desktop Community.
