Dear Amit,
In case you don't have good continuous net access, you can
compile mplayer off source. The source is pretty much complete in itself and
hence is very easy to compile.
1. Download the .tar.bz2 file from www.mplayerhq.hu
2. Untar it using tar -xjvf <filename>
3. cd Mplayer1.0-rc1
4. ./configure --enable-gui
5. make && make install (make install to be done as root)
For GUI, you need to download Mplayer skins and put them into the skins
directory in the .Mplayer folder in your home directory. For running command
line version, open a terminal, cd to the directory which contains the media,
and simply type mplayer <filename> , to start playing it. Other way is to
right click on a file in nautilus, say open with and type mplayer.
