Just a few notes about the movie screening:
1) The venue was excellent - a spacious seminar hall with AV facility (this
could be a rough model for the kind of place to screen content in the
future. The turnout was pretty good, with an initial audience of about 100.
(About half the crowd left midway when we had media problems).
2) It helps to setup and test the equipment before the screening, including
a full run of the movie to check for media problems. In the event, the
Toshiba projector, the Xine source and the speakers worked better than
expected. However, the media problems in the second half of the movie
were unanticipated.
3) A break in the beginning/middle with a question-answer session would
also be useful. It so happened that we got that break accidentally when the
power went out :-). The question-answer session at the end, although
effective, did not have the full audience strength.
4) We need to replicate this experiment and repeat it at other venues after
sorting out the media problems. It helps to have backup media and/or
alternative content to show in the event of problems. However, it was
a useful learning experience.
5) It might be a good idea to have some ILUGC-related collateral to hand
out at the end (just a general printout with URLs, contacts, etc.), at least
in ILUGC-organized shows. We can also have standardized posters for The Code,
Revolution OS, ... that can be mailed out along with the invite to future
shows.
Sridhar & Vasudevan from the LUG regulars were present - others who showed
up at the demo day were also present.
