For higher end of course you have scilab. Check out the sheer number
of applications in the scilab library -- I was trying to locate one
package for radiative transfer for one of my friends and voila! almost
there....
KDE education also provides many packages
For basic and advanced physics too there are many packages
There is one for FEA (Finite element analysis - used in structural
science) too of course grid,frame,truss -- 3d and 2d can be treated as
two node elements simplifying the analysis.

Repository?Because I am taking the Ubuntu for doing this.
