May be if you can create a twitter and google plus account its even easier
for people to share.
If we have such a group, we will get more interactions there.

No It wont, infact its possible that the member count will increase.
My suggestion is that every time you post any community activity if you
post a social media link to it,
may it be specific or a general ilugc link to twitter or google plus. Its
easy for people to share with smart phone.
Here I am asking you a specific question, are you planning for "Software
Freedom Day"?
Then you should try meetup.com, flyers other medias which are also
effective.
