In an age where credit card bills are delivered online and that delivery
alone is considered
sufficient notification (opt-in of course), there's no reason to think that
the spirit of the law is to
forbid what we're talking about here. They want a way to send the
information, ask for clarification,
maybe some record of contact information for the future as well.
Perhaps this service could be as simple as offering an end-to-end encrypted
email
service: the public sees one email provided by the service, and it allows
the applicant to access via POP3 (something like protonmail, maybe). If we
must have real time
forwarding (as opposed to on-demand), ensuring the applicant's true email
is not accessible
if given root access to the server is a problem though.
My qualms about the RTI's existence aside, this has the potential to do
much good,
and I'm willing to provide many hours to make this happen.
