Happy days ahead. Best wishes
I complained him that it is a hardware problem and changing the
monitor might be a good idea. So, he generously bought me a 17" Samsung
LCD monitor today for 13,000 Rs.
Find out the horizontal and vertical sync rate of the monitor from the
manuals and use it in the x configuration file /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg)
eg:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "SyncMaster 793s"
Option "DPMS"
HorizSync 30-70
VertRefresh 50-160
EndSection
The most common reason is an unsupported graphics card. Find out the details
of the graphics card and search for an appropriate driver.
When in x window, you can try ctrl alt + or ctrl alt - to change the
resoultion.
Even my least supported unichrome chip works smoother in newer distros, so
try a recent one such as Ubuntu-Dapper which comes with a very polished
version of xorg - xorg7
