A week back I looked at Project Looking Glass and even downloaded a
stable build. But, unfortunately it isn't running in my computer, as
mine doesn't qualify fit enough to run it! Anyone, here was successful
running it? How are the looks and feel of it?
I tried getting it to work two months ago, I wasn't that impressed.
While there were nice things like rotating/rendering a window in a 3d
space, there isn't any practical use for it, and it is *slow*. For a
l33t desktop, I still would prefer the enlightenment window manager. I'm
still waiting for the functional release of e-17 (Enlightenment 0.17)
which might provide graphical eye-candy interface, with focus on some
practical usability. And yes, for most of today's machines,
enlightenment isn't "bloated" nor slow for the features it provides (it
runs peacefully on my Pentium-133 with 32 MB RAM laptop).
There was a similar project by name fresco (
http://www.fresco.org), and
it seems to me that the project is either waiting for some graphics
programming wizards to pitch in, or possibly, the original developers
are figuring out what to do with it.
