yes. But it has some advantages too(like nat).
As the orig poster is going use it in home, modem will be a better choice.
He doesn't want to use M$ :-) please see his first post. But without driver
how can he install the modem in linux. So he has to first download the
driver using M$(at his home) and then config it in linux.
i see the only way he can connect to internet without M$ windows help is
router. Also he can remove windows once modem works in linux.
