[Ilugc] Recovering data from a partially dead hard disk

I have a hard disk almost dead.
It is recognized in bios some times.
When booted with that harddisk with a ubuntu live cd,
sudo fdisk -l
is showing nothing.
When bios detects your hard disk, after booting from live cd / sysresccd,
run dmesg
and check for the kernel messages to get info about the hard disk (grep for
instances of sda or similar)
and this might give you some clear idea about any physical problems in the
disk.
