[Ilugc] Ubuntu 10.04 Black Screen on Bootup

I had started using Ubuntu as my main OS and of late I have seen while
booting 10.04 it just shows a black screen I have to press the power button
once again and then power button once again to get it up an running, I
browsed the net and landed on the link which is shown below. They have
asked me to replace quite and splash with nomodeset, which I did and my
ubuntu does boot up, however while booting up now it shows lots of text
scrolling past the screen while it is booting. Is this normal ? Since the
OS shows black screen almost once in a day I need to wait for a couple of
more days to know for sure if it is completely fixed.

It is normal to see the scrolling text. Only in the last 5 years, they
have added the splash image. Personally, I prefer the text to make sure
all services have started up okay.
If you are up for some experimentation, you can try to set the value to,
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset quiet"
and see what happens. Without a splash image, I don't know what you will
see on boot up.
